the speed settings give you real flexibility. the lowest setting is quiet enough for sleeping and the higher speeds actually move air noticeably around the room. it's not just a cosmetic difference between them.

ok so the timer on this thing works exactly as advertised. my old unit had a timer that would randomly reset itself and i gave up on it. this one just does what i set it to, every time.
