The timer is genuinely useful. I set it to run during the day while I'm at work and it's off by the time I get home. The humidity in my house has noticeably dropped since I started doing that, and I'm not wasting energy running it around the clock

the tank holds a surprisingly large amount before needing to be emptied. I have a pretty damp lower level and I'm only emptying it once a day rather than constantly checking on it. The handle on the tank makes it easy to carry to the sink too.
